About the Arizona District 5 Democrats ~ AZLD5 Dems

Who We Are

We are the Arizona District 5 Democrats (or “AZLD5 Dems”). Legislative District 5 (or “LD5”) is one of 30 legislative districts in Arizona.   We meet on the First Tuesday of each month, with limited exceptions.  Check our home page for specific information on upcoming meetings.

Our Board

Our board is made up of (a) three officers required by statute: Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary; (b) two officers required by our bylaws: First Vice Chair and Second Vice Chair); (c) other officers elected at the biennial reorganization meeting; and (d) officers appointed by the Chair.

From a family of artists, Marilyn has specialized in drawing, stained glass and collage.  She was a career art teacher and AEA member.  During that time she served as an Association Rep defending teachers and best practices. Marilyn also completed Political Action School, AEA State Leadership Academy and Threat Assessment Training.  She has also served as a negotiator, legislative liaison, School Board and Bond Election Chair, and worked on numerous campaigns and initiatives. She also worked as a Montessori Site Chair. As President of the Willo Historic Neighborhood Association, Marilyn (with four other adjoining historic neighborhoods) successfully sued the FAA and assisted APS in finding a substation site outside of the neighborhood.   She completed these from start to finish.

1ST VICE CHAIR
Lin Ogburn

Lin’s intro to politics was a college canvass for McGovern and organizing protests against the Vietnam War. A political junkie early on, she worked on campaigns with the Democratic Party in Kentucky throughout the 70’s and 80’s before finding her passion for environmental issues. She was Vice Chair of Concerned Citizens Coalition, an Environmental Watchdog group, for several years before moving to Arizona in 1998 with her job as an advocate in disability law.  She jumped back into politics in 2015 and served as Vice Chair of PC and Neighborhood Teams on the Board of the old LD28. Following redistricting Lin has been the Field/Data Coordinator for the new LD5.  As the new 1st Vice Chair of LD5 her goal is to expand the PC/Volunteer Base and encourage PC involvement not only in our elections but also in our Phoenix LD5 community.

Judy Greene MD is a retired radiologist who is passionate about politics in Arizona. After moving here from Ohio in 2008, she became involved with Obama for America from 2009-2012. She was fortunate to attend his 2012 inauguration. Subsequently, she became a precinct committee member with the Maricopa County Democratic Party.   She worked on the 2016 and 2018 campaigns of Dr. Hiral Tipirneni for US Congress and has since done canvassing and phone banking for various other candidates.  As a deputy registrar she has been involved in multiple voter registration drives and is a member of the Maricopa County Democrats’ Voter Registration Committee. She is a charter member of the Maricopa County Democratic Party Black Engagement Committee and was its Co-Chair from 2018 through 2020. Currently she serves on their Executive Committee. In 2020 she was selected to be a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and shortly afterward was elected the Second Vice Chairperson of Legislative District 24, now LD5, a position she currently holds. She’s also chairperson of the MCDP Equity Committee and a member of the Political Action Committee of the Maricopa County branch of the NAACP. She hopes to restore sanity to Arizona politics by electing Democrats in 2022.
